Middlesbrough Fascias Soffits & Guttering Services

PB Roofing operate around Middlesbrough and the surrounding local area.

There are various parts of the roof that need to be properly maintained and it is worth making sure that your fascias, soffits and guttering are kept in the best possible condition.

Fascias

The fascia board refers to a board that is long, straight and runs along the lower edge of your roof. It is fixed to the lower end of the roof and supports the bottom row of tiles as well as carrying the guttering.

This part of the roof has an important job. For example, in heavy rain, a roof can expect to deal with several gallons of water per second in the gutters, so it is important that this structure is properly upheld.

Soffits

Soffits are placed under the fascias. Generally speaking when you are looking up at a roof this is the board you are most likely to see from the street.

This is important as it provides ventilation. Without adequate ventilation, condensation can form. This then increases the risk of the timbers in the roof decaying and if left unchecked could potentially cause serious damage.

Guttering

The guttering around your roof helps to keep water away from your home. If a building does not have guttering then water runs down the house, damaging the brickwork (and brickwork can be very expensive to replace if it is damaged).

Damage can also occur if a guttering system is not properly maintained. Water can end up running under the tiles, damaging the roof itself. As water flows, cracks can start to form, affecting the foundations.

Fortunately, guttering itself is relatively inexpensive. As with a lot of construction projects you can use a range of different materials such as aluminium, stainless steel or uPVC. If you have a more traditional home, some designers favour materials that match the original period, such as copper or wood.

Inevitably, each type of material has its advantages and disadvantages. uPVC is easier to install and are a more economical choice.

Aluminium is lightweight and rustproof but can also stand up to harsher weather conditions (it can also be painted to blend in with the architecture). While it is more expensive, stainless steel is the sturdiest material available.

Installation

While some people may think about going the DIY route, there are some potential pitfalls. For example, if your gutters are too small then they will become overloaded during periods of heavy rain.

There is also the risk of damaging the gutters during installation, something that can negatively affect their capabilities.
